| Using six picks in the 2012 draft, the Dolphins fill their biggest needs without reaching to fill holes. Melvin Ingram will be a stud opposite Cameron Wake. Brandon Weeden is a great value at pick No. 30, and a much needed starter. Brian Quick may not have a big impact in Year One, which is a concern due to the lack of talent on the roster. A more NFL ready prospect would have been ideal. DeAngelo Peterson will be a better athletic option than Anthony Fasano. All-in-all, three targets were added for Weeden, which is a plus. | Grade: B- |
| Pick | Overall | Choice | Notes | |
| 1.08 | 8 | Melvin Ingram, DE from South Carolina | The Dolphins have been seeking a good pass rusher to pair with Cameron Wake. With Quinton Coples off the board, Melvin Ingram becomes the choice here. The stud from South Carolina will put the finishing touches on a top-6 defense from a year ago. | |
| 1.30 | 30 | Brandon Weeden, QB from Oklahoma St. | The Dolphins pay a modest price to move up for Weeden, a quarterback whom many scouts think is third-best in this draft class and whose age is the only factor holding him back from top-15 draft status. | |
| 3.09 | 73 | Brian Quick, WR from Appalachian St. | Shipping Brandon Marshall off to the Bears in the middle of this draft dictated this pick. Quick is easily the best receiver available, a bit of a shock that he fell out of the second and so far into the third round. The big receiver from Appalachian State would make an immediate impact on this team. | |
| 5.10 | 137 | Juron Criner, WR from Arizona | With the Dolphins increasingly looking like they will address the WR position in the draft, pairing Criner with Quick makes a ton of sense. Both were great value in the 3rd and 5th rounds respectively. | |
| 6.27 | 185 | Deangelo Peterson, TE from L.S.U. | The Packers employed five tight ends last season. With just Anthony Fasano and Jeron Mastrud as true tight ends on the roster to go along with H-Back Charles Clay, Peterson becomes an upside/depth pick. | |
| 7.30 | 220 | Winston Guy, S from Kentucky | An underrated defensive back out of Kentucky, Guy is a versatile player, having played safety, cornerback and even linebacker at times. The Dolphins did well with Jimmy Wilson in the 7th round last year, and could do the same with Guy here. |
